Nerdle
Wordle for maths — guess the hidden equation in six tries using numbers and operators.
Nerdle applies the Wordle mechanic to mathematics. The hidden "word" is an eight-symbol equation using the digits 0–9 and the operators +, −, ×, ÷, and =. Each guess must be a valid, correct equation (both sides must balance). Colour feedback works identically to Wordle — green for right symbol in the right position, purple (yellow equivalent) for right symbol wrong position, black for absent.
The rules
- Your guess must be a valid arithmetic equation — you cannot enter random strings of numbers.
- The = sign always appears exactly once and never as the first or last symbol.
- Standard order of operations applies: multiplication and division before addition and subtraction.
- "Mini Nerdle" uses six-symbol equations for a shorter puzzle; "Instant Nerdle" reveals the answer immediately without colour feedback for a pure deduction challenge.
Strategy tips
- Structure your first guess to cover as many different digits and operators as possible. E.g.
12+34=46tests 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, +, = in one guess. - Once you know which digits are present, focus on constructing valid equations that use those digits in different positions and combinations.
- Remember that digits can repeat — both sides of the equation might use the same number.
- The = sign's position gives you crucial structural information — if it's green, you know the length of both sides of the equation.
