Scattergories

Name things in a category starting with a randomly rolled letter — before time runs out.

Scattergories is a creative-thinking word game in which players must name items in a given category that all begin with the same letter. The letter is chosen by rolling a 20-sided die. Players have three minutes to fill in answers for 12 categories on their answer sheet. After time is called, identical answers are crossed out — only unique answers score a point.

Scoring

1 point per unique answer (not matched by any other player).
Bonus points if multiple words in your answer all start with the target letter (e.g. "Pink Porcupine" for letter P scores 2 points).
Answers can be challenged — the group votes on acceptability.

Strategy tips

Think beyond the obvious. The most common answer in any category scores nothing — aim for correct answers that others won't think of.
Proper nouns are allowed in most versions — use celebrities, cities, brands, and characters to find answers other players skip.
For difficult letters (X, Q, Z), lean on place names, brand names, and scientific terms rather than common words.
Multi-word answers where every word starts with the target letter can double your score for a category.
