Quiddler
A card game where you build words from letter cards — shortest hand wins each round.
Quiddler is a card-based word game published by Set Enterprises in which players are dealt increasing hands of cards each round (3 in round 1, rising to 10 in round 8) and must arrange all their cards into one or more valid words. Unlike Scrabble, you don't place tiles on a board — you simply lay down your word cards in front of you. High-value cards carry more points but are harder to use. Bonus points are awarded for the longest word and most words each round.
How to play
- On your turn, draw one card from the deck or the discard pile, then discard one card.
- When you can form valid words using all your remaining cards (after discarding), you "go out" — ending the round for everyone.
- All players then reveal their words. Cards used in valid words score their face value; leftover cards count against you.
- Multi-letter cards (QU, IN, ER, CL, etc.) count as a single card and can significantly boost a hand's playability.
Strategy tips
- Hold multi-letter cards — QU, IN, TH, ER, CL are among the most versatile and frequently save otherwise unplayable hands.
- Don't wait for a "perfect" hand. Going out one round before your opponent can often win you the round even with a slightly lower word score.
- In early rounds (small hands), prioritise one clean word. In later rounds, think about breaking your hand into two shorter words if a long word isn't forming.
- Track which high-value cards opponents discard — if someone dumps a Q, they probably don't have the QU card to make it playable.
